Overview

This course provides opportunities for actual hospital experiences to ensure that competencies are developed in the nursing care management of clients with problems in gastrointestinal/ metabolism, genitourinary and reproductive. It also allows students to apply basic concepts and principles of emergency nursing and demonstrate preparedness in responding to an emergency situation.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1.Recalls nursing skills learned in the preparation of clinical exposure and determine the various physical assessment techniques and tools needed by the client in various situations and settings.2.Recognize nursing responsibilities related to the practice of assorted nursing skills.3.Discuss the rationale and principles of every nursing procedures and diagnostic examinations needed in the care of the clients in various settings of exposure.4.Discuss the precautionary measures and nursing considerations in caring the clients as well as in the use of the equipment, materials and supplies, medications and medical and surgical nursing procedures.

Mental skills:

1.Converse the importance of procedures performed to specific disorders, it’s nursing considerations and implications above and beyond the monitoring of outcome and effects to the patient.2.Discuss the medical-surgical and nursing interventions as well as emergency care needed by the clients in the area of exposure, emphasizing the importance and prevention of complications.3.Discuss the importance of Pharmacology in managing the disorder of the patient, its indication specific to the patient, mechanism of actions, side effects, adverse effects and nursing responsibilities associated to the said pharmacologic agent.4.List down the nursing care process of the client identifying their health problems, the actual, potential and risks interventions as to medical-surgical and nursing, as well as evaluation.

Scientific and professional skills:

1.Establish good working relationship with the members of the health care team and the clients’ significant others.2.Obtain comprehensive information needed for accurate assessment using assessment tools and technique, classifying actual versus potential and risk problems, above and beyond normal versus abnormal findings.3.Maintain accurate documentation of client care and emphasize correct recording and referrals.4.Display confidence in the performance of nursing procedures.

General skills:

1.Exhibits appreciation of the value of nursing care to other members of the health care team.2.Develop ability to deal with different kinds of client, paramedical team in the care of clients with specific health needs and problems.3.Observe proper aseptic technique and universal precautions in caring for patients according to management they need like undergoing an invasive procedures.4.Confidence in in providing health teaching regarding patients’ medication as well as interventions.
