Overview

The course introduces the nursing student to the basic concepts of Research and its importance in the practice of nursing. The lectures cover the discussion of the building blocks of research, different research designs, instrument preparation and statistical tools. Furthermore, the students will e trained to prepare a research proposal in their field of interest which they will continue to pursue in Research 2

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1- Differentiate nursing research from other kinds of researches as well as the importance of research in nursing profession.

2- Discuss the steps in making research and the implication of the theoretical frameworks in developing their research proposal.

3- Explain the preferred title, research questions and objectives chosen above and beyond the importance of the needed review of related literatures to support their study proposal.

4- Enumerate the components of the research proposal and its implications to nursing profession.

Mental skills:

1- Define research and the different kinds of research.

2- Recall the steps of research making.

3- Analyze the appropriateness of the selected theoretical framework and paradigms in the selected title and problem of the study selected.

4- Enumerate the components of proposal research as discussed.

Scientific and professional skills:

1- Create a research proposal (Chapters 1, 2 and 3) based on the guideline approved by the Faculty according to the key areas of priorities and agenda/development.

2- Demonstrate skills in making the research proposal.

3- Apply principles and ethics in research making in proposal making.

4- Perform and conduct preliminary investigations or data gathering upon approval of the research problem/title.

General skills

1- Modifies if needed the research proposal soon as corrections from the subject teacher are available. Ability to work in the team either as a member or a leader.

2- Accept professional responsibility in revising and documenting the needed information in the making of research proposal.

3- Apply essential skills in data gathering specific to review of related literature to support the research proposal.

4- Collaborate with other members of the group to enhance learning/knowledge, skills and attitude in making a group proposal.

Teaching and learning methods

  • Lecture-discussion.
  • Group Dynamics.
  • Participative Discussion (Recitation)
  • Laboratory Exercises.

Methods of assessments

• Midterm exam 40%.

• Final exam 60%.
