Overview

Actual application of the theories, principles and concepts of clinical nursing practice to groups of clients in varied settings to refine nursing skills in the chosen area of nursing specialization.

Intended learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding:

1.Differentiate the role of the surgical nurse preoperatively and postoperatively

2.Describe the activities needed to prepare clients for surgery

3.Discuss the principles of Aseptic Technique

4.Discuss the nursing assessment of the perioperative phase and emergency situation

1.Recognize critical areas when assessing peri-operatively using the nursing process

2.Prioritize nursing interventions in the perioperative care of a client

3.Obtain comprehensive information for accurate assessment of health status

4.Assess and classify clients according to priority needs to determine appropriate nursing care
