Overview

The general objectives of the course in the form of outputs that the student is supposed to acquire after successful completion of the course are:

  • · Recognize the basic concepts of an ordinary differential equation.
  • · The student learns methods of solving equations of the first order and the problem of the initial value and ensuring the existence of the solution or not in certain circumstances.
  • · The student acquires the ability to solve linear differential equations.
  • · The student uses Laplace transformations to solve linear equations.

Intended learning outcomes

The targeted learning outcomes of the course are:

A. Knowledge & (understand)

The basic information and key concepts that a student must acquire after successfully studying the course in the fields of knowledge and understanding are:

1

Defines ordinary differential equations, their solutions and applications.

2

The student determines the conditions of the theories of existence and the oneness of the solution of first-order equations and ways to solve them.

3

Accommodates the different states of linear equations and the way to solve each case.

4

Mentally sketch the steps of the solution using Laplace transformations.

B. Mental (skills)

The mental skills that the student acquires on analysis after studying the course successfully, and the ability to think creatively, identify and solve problems are:

1

Distinguish the types of differential equations and relate the general solution and the special solution to the ordinary differential equation.

2

Distinguish between the types of first-order equations and methods of solving them.

3

Distinguish the cases of linear equations and how to find the solution for each case.

4

It is suggested if the equation can be solved by Laplace transforms or by other methods.

C. Practical & Professional (Skills)

The skills that the student must acquire when studying the course successfully, in order to enable him to use what he has studied in professional applications, are:

1

The student uses equations as mathematical models for applied problems.

2

deduces the theory of existence and oneness before starting to solve the equation of the first order

3

The student distinguishes the solution of linear ordinary differential equations using standard methods

4

The student uses Laplace transformations to solve equations.
