Overview

This course aims to enable the student to:

•  Recognize the drug classes and the most of individual drugs covered in this course.
• Identify sites and mechanisms of drug actions and therefore predict the side effects, toxicity and drug interaction.
• Identify therapeutic uses of agents used in the disorders listed in the course description.
•  Use knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics to select the appropriate drug for effective pharmacotherapy.
• Decide which is the best route of administration and in what dose and for how long is the treatment.
• Predict possible drug-drug and drug-food interactions in order to improve the efficacy and safety of the drug.

Intended learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course students should be able to;

• Recognizing drug groups included in the course.
• Identifying the names of the drugs included in the course
• students become familiar with the mechanism of action of the drugs included in the course
• Identifying the use of medications included in the course and their side effect

Teaching and learning methods

A wide range of teaching and learning methods to suit the content of the course include theoretical lectures and laboratory lessons in addition to discussion sessions.

Methods of assessments

The students' knowledge and performance about the studied topics are assessed throughout the study period. These assessment methods include the following quizzes, discussion sessions, oral exams, and written exams (grand total mark 100%).

• Mid-term exam =20%
• Practical exam =20%
• Reports and activities = 20%
• Final exam = 40%
