Overview

The course aims to enable students to

  • Understand the main processes involved in the preparation of biotechnology-based formulations.
  • Formulate, prepare and evaluate some cosmetic products.
  • Understand the basics of the pharmaceutical industry based on genetic engineering and nanocarriers.
  • Get Knowledge about the basics and techniques of preparing different blood products.

Course outlines:

  • Cosmetics.
  • Biotechnology (Biotech pharmaceuticals).
  • Blood Products.
  • Drug Delivery System and Targeting drugs 

Intended learning outcomes

At the end of the course students should be able to:

  1. Recognize methods and stages of manufacturing, techniques and devices used at each stage, additives, and storage methods.
  2. Recognize the raw materials used in the formulation of cosmetics, biological medicines, and blood products and their derivatives.
  3. familiarize with the evaluating methods for pharmaceutical products and problems solving during the manufacturing process.
  4. Recognize the most important types of nano-carriers used in transporting and guiding.

Teaching and learning methods

This course is comprised of a combination of theoretical lectures and laboratory group-based practical sessions

Methods of assessments

The students' knowledge and performance about the studied topics are assessed throughout the study period. These assessment methods include the following quizzes, discussion sessions, oral exams, and written exams (grand total mark 100%).

  • Mid-term exam =20%
  • Practical and oral exams =20%
  • activities =20%
  • Final exam =40%
