Overview

This course introduces the students to the methods used in drug development, including:

  1. The general methods used to screen a new drug and to determine its efficacy using biological organisms.
  2. The general methods that are used in the examination and bio-calibration of drugs that act on different systems of the body: nervous system, cardiovascular system, digestive system...etc
  3. Introducing the students to the clinical stages of drug testing.

Course outlines:

  1. introduction for bioassay and general methods for drug screening.
  2. methods for bioassay of drugs such as drugs affecting the central and autonomic nervous system, the cardiovascular system, and the digestive system, in addition to diuretics and hormones.
  3. Pre-clinical and clinical stages of drug screening.

Intended learning outcomes

At the end of the course, it is expected that the student should:

  1. Have sufficient skills and knowledge needed for the development of new drugs.
  2. Have knowledge of the methods used for biological testing of drugs acting on the autonomic nervous system, hormones, and the central nervous system.
  3. Have knowledge of the methods used for biological testing of drugs acting on the circulatory system, diuretics, and digestive system.
  4. The student will be familiar with the pre-clinical and clinical stages of drug testing.
