In this
course students are introduced to the nature of language and the basic
principles of linguistic theory. This
includes definitions of language and linguistics, characteristics of human
language, levels of linguistic analysis, branches of linguistics, major schools
and basic distinctions in linguistics. Phonology is also included, preceded by
a review of Phonetics.
Intended learning outcomes
1 .Introduce students to some of the important
theoretical concepts and empirical findings of modern linguistics
2- Emphasize
the connections between linguistics and the many other academic disciplines
that are concerned with the study of language
Teaching and learning methods
Mainly, teaching this course relays on two different sides, theoretical
side, here the teacher will explain the information to students through
lecturing by using marker and the white board.
