Overview

This course familiarize students with IELTS Academic Reading test which tests their ability to understand and answer questions at a reasonably high level of difficulty. Students will practice global reading skills( skills needed to comprehend the main idea of a text) and micro-skills ( skills to locate and interpret detailed information in a text) .Students are expected to understand opinion and attitude and be able to distinguish these from fact. They will also be expected to distinguish main idea from supporting ideas. The teacher should train them to adapt their reading habits according to the text and task. Speed is required to do all reading tasks.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course students are expected to answer successfully a variety of question types, chosen from the following:

1.Multiple choice

2.Identifying information

3.Identifying writer’s views/claims

4.Matching information, headings, features, sentence endings

5.Sentences completion, summary completion, note completion, table completion, flowchart completion and diagram label completion

6.Short-answer questions

The course is taught through lectures, hands-on reading exercises, lectures, panel discussions and hands-on training.
