Overview

This module aims to familiarize students with the basics of computer assisted learning (CAL), beginning with a definition of CAL, its historical development and the use of different types of software. Different approaches to using CAL software in the classroom will be explored. It will also expose students to the effective use of IT in education like in e-learning and blended learning. The knowledge which students will gain from this course will help them to understand different approaches to information technology solutions and how to deal with it.

Intended learning outcomes

1. integrate technology into learning environments and understand the importance of computers in learning, its fundamental function, robust characteristics and contribution to society;

2.create software and technology-based projects and activities for use in their own classrooms and gain better knowledge in maximizing the use of animation, imaging software, web and publishing software;

3.develop new computer-enhanced tasks and adapt existing computer-based tasks to suit the needs of their learners.

Teaching and learning methods

This course is taught by using lectures. During these lectures, the student is exposed to several writings from various fields. Also, to teach this course, the instructor uses a computer and projector.

This course is evaluated by conducting a midterm exam, lecture activism, presentation, and final exam
