Overview

Reading is one of the most important skills in the language and it is the gateway to all science and knowledge. Through it, the learner gets acquainted with different knowledge, information and experiences that enrich his linguistic repertoire and his literary style. This course provides students with high interest reading passages from authentic sources that act as springboards into reading comprehension activities, reading skills development, vocabulary building, practicing grammatical analysis, thought provoking discussion and improving writing style.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing this course, students will acquire knowledge and skills represented in the ability to extract main ideas from English texts and search for specific information and details in them, in addition to distinguishing between synonyms and antonyms of words, and guessing the meanings of new vocabulary from the context. Students will be also able to clarify the relationship between different sentences and paragraphs in the text, the way ideas are sequenced and their impact on the overall meaning of the text, as well as analyze the complex grammatical structures of sentences and use the necessary reading strategies and skills in their academic field of study.
