Overview

This course aims to continue training students to speak English and develop their listening and speaking skills, in addition to the student’s participation in different activities that give each student an opportunity to practice speaking in English, as well as understanding various conversations with different English accents and interacting with what they hear. Moreover, this course focuses on providing the student with different skills and speaking strategies that can be used, such as the ability to start and end a conversation in a correct and professional way, and by using different expressions, each according to the context and place, which vary between formal and less formal, as well as other speaking strategies such as asking questions to maintain a conversation. Besides developing the students’ ability to express and defend their personal opinions using advanced vocabulary , good language, and new different expressions of agree and disagree in an academic and advanced way.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing this course, the students would be able to:

Start and end an English conversation in a natural way

Interact with what he/she hears from conversations in English

Maintain the conversation by asking follow-up questions

Expressing personal opinions towards various topics, whether by) agree or disagree)

Formulate different conversations in different contexts such as (in a restaurant, while shopping, visiting the doctor...etc.)

Criticize and make different complaints about different situations

Negotiate and reach an agreement with the speaker

Describes, analyse and give a comprehensive summary of their favourite movie or TV show using advanced expressions.

Teaching and learning methods

This course is taught through practical lectures in its entirety, where specialized books and websites are used in teaching listening and speaking skills to non-native English speaking students. The activities used are diversified to include interactive activities, games and activities that include questions that students answer and allow them to speak English for as long as possible. It also includes audio activities where students listen to different topics and interact with them by answering questions and related exercises

Methods of assessments

Students are evaluated through their participation in various activities during the academic lectures, in addition to their first midterm exam and final exam, which both include personal questions and interactive conversations among students to assess their ability to communicate in English.
