The course provides a wide-ranging overview of the many and diverse
issues in Applied Linguistics. It starts by providing an overview of Applied
Linguistics and the essential areas of enquiry in it. Then, it discusses how
the first and second languages are acquired. Discussions on individual
differences in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and the different processes
involved in it are also taken in this course.
The course aims to:
1. introduce students to Applied
Linguistics and the different theories involved in this study;
2. emphasize the reciprocal relationship of principle and practice,
and the interdisciplinary nature of this
area of study.
