This course gives students in-depth discussions on higher level grammatical structures. It enlightens them to the difference between clauses and phrases, the different kinds of clauses. It also helps the student to analyze and construct grammatical structures correctly.
The topics of grammatical Structures 1 course include distinguishing between the different types of clauses (adverbial clauses, adjective clauses and noun clauses)
Intended learning outcomes
o By the end of this course the students would be able to
o The student would write compound and complex sentences using different types of clauses and conjunctions.
o The student would compare the structures of compound and complex sentences The student would use different grammatical structures in writing and understand academic texts
o The student would make a change and modify some grammatical structures
o The student would be able to formulate grammatical sentences correctly
Teaching and learning methods
The course is taught by giving lectures in the halls allocated to the department, using specialized sources and books in teaching grammar and grammatical structures to students of the English Language Department. Also, exercises and some activities are used to help students understand the various contents of the course.Methods of assessments
Students are evaluated by conducting a mid-term exam and a final exam that includes all the components of the curriculum:
