At the end of the course, the student must be able to:1. Recognize and understand the different types of sentences and their components: phrases and clauses. 2. Understand and identify the different types of English clauses, the conjunctions that mark them and their functions in sentences. 3. Recognize the noun clause and its functions occurring in different structures: wish clauses, subjunctive clauses and formal questions 4. Recognize the adjective clause, its types, relative pronouns and relative adverbs. 5. Recognize the adverb clause and the different subordinators that mark this clause with their different meanings. 6. Represent the different types of clauses using tree diagrams. 7. Identify the clauses in a variety of reading materials as well as using them in speaking and writing.
