Overview

After introducing and explaining the idea of psycholinguistics, students are introduced to the vital foundations of social human behavior and students are also introduced to how to receive speech, vocabulary and meanings from a simple, primitive system to a complex one.

Intended learning outcomes

This course aims to:

1. allow the student to demonstrate his/her knowledge of psycholinguistics and the biological foundations of human behavior and communication.

2. explain the concept of psycholinguistic research and how it can serve as a window into the functioning of the human mind.

3. explain how to understand the language, whether spoken or written.

4. discuss the acquisition of the language, whether it is a mother, second or foreign language.

5. learn about language problems and disorders, such as congenital speech defects, or language defects that occur as a result of injury to an organ of speech, hearing, vision, or associated nerves, or devices in the language centers of the brain.

Teaching and learning methods

The course will be presented to the student through lectures, panel discussions, or assignments and exercises, discussion and dialogue

Methods of assessments

Methods of evaluating students in this course:

(class work 40% & final 60%)

Class work is divided into written midterm, assignments and tasks.

Final exam is in a form of written exam.
