Overview

This course is an introduction to language teaching methodology that explores methods of teaching English and recent methodological innovations in teaching English as a first and second language.

Intended learning outcomes

This course aims to:

1. Introducing students to an overview of the language teaching methodology.

2. Enable students to form their own basic rules, values and beliefs, which are essential in language teaching.

3. Developing students' abilities to identify the correct ways to practice innovative methods of teaching the language in contrast to the traditional methods that they studied when they were learning the language.4. Providing students with the skills of using modern technologies in language teaching.

5. Introducing students to the different theories that explain how mental development occurs

Teaching and learning methods

The course will be presented to the student through a variety of deductive and inductive grammar lessons. It will employ lectures, PowerPoint presentations, discussions, group work, and home assignments.

Methods of assessments

Methods of evaluating students in this course (class work 40% & final 60%)

Class work: is divided into: 1- Written midterm 2- Short quizzes 3- Home assignments (40%)

Written final exam (60%)
