Overview

Overview

The course Strategies of Teaching English (2) aims at giving the student teachers the chance to apply the theoretical knowledge they received in previous courses and preparing them for practicing in public schools. In this course, the student teacher is requested to prepare lesson plans for different language skills and achieve their lesson objectives in microteaching circles done inside the English Department. During their microteaching practice, students are trained to present their lessons, run appropriate activities, conduct assessment procedures, make good use of audio-visual aids and computer assisted teaching tools together with effective classroom management and student interaction. The course also aims at developing the students’ ability to analyze and evaluate lessons as well as performing peer and self-assessment.

Intended learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student must be able to:

1. Prepare lesson plans, follow them up and achieve them inside class.

2. Present their lessons, design activities and use appropriate assessment tools.

3. Manage their classroom, use group, pair and individual work, maintain student interaction through using encouragement and motivation.

4. Proper design and use of teaching aids including flash cards, cardboards, computer assisted language teaching and assessment, and the effective use of the classroom board.

5. Self-assessment through the use of assessment forms and peer assessment and lesson analysis.

Teaching and learning methods

The course will be presented to the students through introductory lectures followed by microteaching performed by the students together with discussion and analysis of students’ teaching performance.

Methods of assessments

Methods of evaluating students in this course is as follows: Class work (40%) and final (60%)

Class work is divided into two microteaching parts, each is 20%. The final is divided into two microteaching parts, each is 30%
