Overview

This course focuses on the identification of the grammatical rules, their meaning, and usage in practical life. The studied topics are discussed in detail inside the classroom and are followed by a set of practice exercises to ensure students' understanding of the rules and to clarify cases of confusion if there are any.

Intended learning outcomes

· To reduce and eliminate difficulties pertaining to some grammar rules that students have not mastered well in secondary schools.

· To deepen students' understanding of the studied grammatical rules by pointing out their meaning, how they are used in actual life situations and how their meaning and usage may differ from the mother tongue.

· To allow students to practice these rules inside the classroom, discuss them with each other, and explain exceptions in order to help them instill such rules in their minds in an effective way.

Teaching and learning methods

This course is both lecturer-centered and learner-centered. This is done through a series of procedures including:

· Topics are sent to students in advance via the class Telegram group.

· The lecturer introduces the rules, their meaning and their common usage.

· The lecturer allows students to discuss these rules and give examples of how native speakers use them.

· Together with the students, the lecturer pinpoints the new changes in the usage of these rules if there any.

· Students read and answer exercises inside the classroom.

Methods of assessments

Students' progress is evaluated according to their written performance in mid-term and final examinations.
