Overview

This course is designed to help students to express their ideas in a creative way. Mainly, this course’s focus is on the skill of writing itself. However, it will also have a theoretical part. Student will be given explanation about basic elements that contribute on making an outstanding piece of writing. Students will read and discuss samples of various genres of the craft of writing and will create their own piece of writing for each of the topics that will be covered in this course.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this course students should:

· Have developed the communication skills needed for successful writing

· Have developed their knowledge and experience to explore ways of reading and writing

· Be able to express thoughts, feelings and emotions rather than to simply convey information.

· Be able to create and develop their pieces of work and punctuate them correctly.

· Be able to expand and refine their vocabulary.

Be able to use different resources and avoid plagiarism

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures held in the classroom include explanation and examples. Students are also asked to write one piece of writing in each class . Class work is done in pairs or groups to give the students the opportunity to process the information and knowledge from diverse perspectives. Students are asked to write a final version of their class work as homework taking the teacher’s feedback on their class work in consideration. These pieces of work are collected and submitted in one portfolio by the end of the course.

Total of 100 Grades should be divided as follows:

10% Class-work

30% Midterm Exam

20% Writing Portfolio

40% Final Exam
