Overview

Students will be introduced to the concept and types of diplomatic translation. They deal with the fact that diplomatic translation takes place in diplomatic missions, embassies or consulates, and that certain aspects of this type of translation can be linked to those carried out within international bodies, in terms of the type of translated texts and existing customs. Students also know that diplomatic translation has its own characteristics and rules.Students are trained on how to develop the skills and strategies to carry out appropriate political translation and to be able to translate political and diplomatic written texts from English into Arabic and vice versa.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of week 12, students will be able to:

  • Properly translate speeches and political conversations.
  • Understand the type of language and the structure of this written text and the mechanisms of its translation
  • Speed and perfection of the translation process.
  • Using modern techniques for diplomatic translation.
  • Using the Internet and audio-visual means to carry out the translation process.
  • Gain the skills required for a diplomatic translator.
  • Understanding the mechanism of diplomatic translation.
  • A theoretical knowledge of the steps involved in translating.
  • To view the latest developments in the ability to translate.

Teaching and learning methods

Lecture, explanation, and examples in the classroom.

Providing more explanations and examples by urging the student to watch Youtube Videos. Urging students also to read the texts available online, and share them with the rest in the Facebook group.

Training method by writing in the classroom and outside the classroom.

Involving the student in projects that urge him to work individually and collectively.
