Overview

This course is so helpful and relevant to Translation students. It attempts to provide some valuable information related to Arabization& Orientalism, such as the definitions of these two concepts, their effects, Orientalism from Edward’s point of view, and some real examples of ‘Arabization’ & ‘Orientalism’.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students should:

· have learned the meaning of some concepts such as ‘Arabization’, & ‘Borrowing’, and known the difference between them.

· beacquainted with some information about the history and the importance of Arabization.

· Have learned the meaning of the concept of ‘Orientalism’ and how that knowledge about the East is generated not through actual facts, but through imagined constructs.

Teaching and learning methods

The interactive teaching method is used as the instructor is deliberately encouraging the students to interact by posing a number of questions before and during explaining the lesson, asking them, for instance, to think of examples of Arabized words from different languages, or for parts of literature they faced and they felt it did not reflect the reality of the east as it is created by the west.

Methods of assessments

Total of 100 Grades should be divided as follows:

· 30% Midterm Exam

· 10% Assignment

· 60% Final Exam
