Overview

The course Morphology 1 (Sarf 1) aims at enabling students to master the use of Arabic word structure through learning the morphological units and derivational processes that affect the structure and meaning of words. Students learn the basics of prosodic templates, verb derivations, augmented and unaugmented verbs; sound and defected verbs; declinable and indeclinable verbs; pronoun attachment and verb corroboration.

Intended learning outcomes

1. Apply the rules they learnt to use correct Arabic structures.

2. Correct common heard and written mistakes that violate the morphological rules.

Teaching and learning methods

The course will be presented to the student through lectures, panel discussions, assignments, and exercises.

Methods of assessments

Methods of evaluating students in this course includes (class work 40% & final 60%)

Class work: is divided into written midterm, assignments and tasks
