Overview

The Course Morphology 3 (Sarf 3) aims at introducing students to the structural templates (formulas) that affect the word meaning and type. This course focuses on diminutive nouns and relational nouns. The course also presents phonological phenomena that affect the word structure such as defection, replacement, assimilation and pause. Students also learn how the language areas are integrated together to study the Arabic language.

Intended learning outcomes

1. Recognize diminutives and relative adjectives.

2. Identify the meanings and purposes of diminutives.

3. Understand the relative adjectives rules and their diacritical marks.

4. Apply the rules of diminutive nouns and relative adjectives in sentences and passages.

5. Analyze the phonological changes of defection, replacement, assimilation and pause that affect morphological patterns.

6. Discover the assimilation positions and the way assimilated sounds are isolated.

Recognize Imala (vowel change) rules and the sounds that are affected by Imala.

Teaching and learning methods

The course will be presented to the student through lectures, panel discussions, assignments, and exercises.

Methods of evaluating students in this course includes (class work 40% & final 60%)

Class work: is divided into written midterm, assignments and tasks
