Overview

This course identifies the health services provided to children of school age, what is meant by health education, and issues related to habits, malnutrition and pathological factors, and the role of the educational institution in health education and disease prevention. The course also equips students with the skill of providing first aid and self-nursing.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1. State the concepts and terminology of school health education, and enumerate its goals.

2. Be familiar with the healthy school environment.

3. Explain the importance of complete or balanced food and water for humans and ways to prevent malnutrition diseases.

4. Enumerate pathogens, germs, sterilization, disinfection, and components of the school's first aid box.

5. Distinguish between immunity and vaccine, how infection occurs and the prevention of the spread of infectious diseases.

6. Identify burns, fractures, insect bites and fainting cases, and how to deal with them.

7. Clarify students’ personal and physical health and how to care for them; healthy habits in food and clothing.

8. Infer the concepts and terminology of school health education and its objectives.

9. Contribute improving environment health levels where they live and increase health awareness.

10. Organise trips to health institutions and identify services provided.

11. Distinguish between healthy and unhealthy habits in food and clothing.

12. Compare malnutrition and food poisoning.

13. Discover the importance of having a school pharmacy; training students on how to practise first aid, methods of sterilization, and disinfection to fight germs.

14. Associate immunity and vaccine and explain how infection occurs, and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

15. Classify burns, fractures, insect bites, and fainting cases.

16. Classify hygiene as a general principle of life and employ the concepts and terminology of school health education and objectives in professional life.

17. Diagnose health problems in the school environment.

18. Apply appropriate methods to distinguish between communicable and non-communicable diseases, and between malnutrition and food poisoning.

19. Use medicines found in first aid boxes at schools.

20. Use media to publicise the role of health awareness and health culture in reducing infectious diseases, strengthening immunity, and urging people to take appropriate vaccination.

21. Employ health education knowledge to deal with cases of burns, fractures, insect bites, and fainting.

22. Appreciate the importance of public and personal hygiene in fighting germs that cause health diseases.
