Overview

The course introduces the students to the concept of childhood, kindergarten and its types, as well as the concept of early intervention, its objectives, and importance. It also differentiates between categories of children with special needs, and identifies key teaching aids, and special considerations for teaching children with special needs.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:

1. Recognize the concept of childhood and kindergarten and its types.

2. Recall important reasons and justifications for early intervention.

3. Distinguish between the concepts of disability and children with special needs.

4. Compare the categories of children with special needs.

5. Explain important teaching aids used in teaching children with special needs.

6. Learn basic skills a child must acquire in the pre-school stage.

7. Explain and discover the concept of childhood and kindergarten and its types.

8. Explain important reasons and justifications for early intervention.

9. Analyse the basic differences between concepts of disability and children with special needs.

10. Infer the difference between the categories of children with special needs.

11. Discuss important teaching aids suitable for children with special needs.

12. Deduce basic skills a child must acquire at the preschool stage.

13. Discuss relevant concerns about integrating children with special needs with normal children.

14. Classify early, middle and late childhood.

15. Practice early intervention strategies and early diagnosis.

16. Design a program to identify children with special needs

17. Diagnose each category of children with special needs.

18. Use essential teaching aids with special consideration for educating children with special needs.

19. Employ knowledge of how to develop basic skills of a pre-school child.

20. Use knowledge of characteristics of children with special needs in a programme to integrate them with ordinary children
