Overview

This course aims to identify the sense of vision, how it works, the concept of visual impairment and its most important terms, classifications, prevention methods, and their impact on growth as well as the importance of residual vision. The course also identifies the needs of visually impaired persons, the most important teaching methods and programs (educational, psychological, and social), and early intervention programs.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1. Recognise the visual impairment category.

2. Explain the characteristics and causes of visual impairment.

3. Enumerate learning methods for people with visual impairments.

4. Recall appropriate curricula and educational environments for persons with visual impairment.

5. Distinguish between the learning methods for visually impaired persons.

6. Analyse the characteristics of visually impaired persons.

7. Suggest and visualise an educational program for the visual impaired.

8. Associate between basic skills needed by the visually impaired in educational programs.

9. Use basic skills in visually impaired educational programs.

10. Apply and evaluate knowledge of the characteristics of the visually impaired in the implementation of appropriate educational programs.

11. Employ educational environment tools for the visually impaired, such as Braille.

12. Employ modern technologies in the learning process

13. Apply good listening and analyse topics in the right way.

14. Respect the opinions of others and acquire team spirit.
