Overview

This course aims at identifying the beginning of social service, philosophy and objectives, and the extent to which it relates to special education. It also aims to develop several relevant student skills.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:

1. Mention the psychological and intelligence tests used in the special education

2. Describe methods of communication with the hearing and visually impaired.

3. List the teaching aids used to teach the visually impaired.

4. Use the computer in teaching the hearing and visually impaired.

5. Describe psychological and mental illnesses.

6. Compare psychological and intelligence tests used in special education.

7. Propose creative solutions in employing psychological tests.

8. Distinguish methods of communication with the hearing and visually impaired.

9. Analyzes intelligence test.

10. Suggest ways of using the computer in teaching the hearing and visually impaired

11. Distinguish between psychological and intelligence tests.

12. Perform diagnosis, evaluation, tests, interviews and case studies

13. Use a psychological test consistent with a disability problem.

14. Perform professional duties towards individuals in need.

15. Use of intelligence and personality tests and interpret their results.

16. Accept the opinions of colleagues during participation and presentation work.

17. Work effectively in teams e.g. in report writing and data recording.

18. Use modern technologies to communicate with people with hearing disabilities.

19. Participate positively and confidently in presenting ideas.

Teaching and learning methods

• Lecture; encourage dialogue and discussion

• Case study and discussion panels; pictures and videos

• Group work; write reports and summarize studies

• Field visits to schools and special education centers; identifying types of disabilities

• Midterm exam 20%
