Overview

This course covers the historical development in the field of learning difficulties, definition for educational difficulty, its causes, types, and characteristics, as well as the difference between learning difficulties, slow learning, and simple mental retardation. The course also includes methods of diagnosing learning difficulties, methods of detecting them, and the key educational programmes and services for various age groups.

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:

1. Recognize the concept of learning for an abnormal child, its characteristics, and importance in addition to the role of the families concerned.

2. Explain the emergence and development of learning difficulties, and the methods of studying and measuring learning difficulties.

3. Mention the biological determinants responsible for learning difficulties (biological mechanisms responsible for behaviour, heredity, maturity).

4. Distinguish developmental learning difficulties (mental disability, visual disability, hearing disability, physical health disability, speech and language disorders).

5. Compare the difficulties of cognitive organization in learning and academic learning difficulties.

6. Explain social learning difficulties (adaptation, emotion, emotional disorders, and giftedness and learning difficulties).

7. To identify the components, objectives, importance, functions, and programs of the educational clinic for people with learning disabilities.

8. Explain the concept of learning difficulties.

9. Analyse methods for studying and measuring learning difficulties.

10. Identify the natural determinants responsible for learning difficulties.

11. Analyse developmental learning difficulties

12. Discover games and ideas that contribute to improving the level of memorization, remembering and concentration

13. Associate social learning difficulties with how to deal with them.

14. Compare training plans for treating a type of learning disability.

15. Diagnose a child who suffers from learning difficulties.

16. Distinguish different methods and techniques for teaching students with learning difficulties.

17. Employ biological determinants responsible for learning difficulties.

18. Design a treatment plan for a child with developmental learning difficulties.

19. Use different educational methods consistent with cognitive and academic learning difficulties.

20. Propose solutions to deal with social learning difficulties.

21. Employ educational clinic programmes for people with learning disabilities
