Overview

The aim of the special education laboratory is to train students to apply psychological tests and intelligence tests, and be trained to use methods of communication (hearing aids, computer use) with the hearing impaired or with the visually impaired (senses of the blind, educational aids, the computer).

Intended learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the students will be able to:

1. Mention the psychological and intelligence tests used in special education

2. Describe the methods of communication with the hearing and visually impaired

3. Enumerate the teaching aids used to teach the visually impaired.

4. Explain how to use the computer in teaching the hearing and visually impaired.

5. Describe psychological and mental illnesses

6. Compare psychological tests and intelligence tests used in special education.

7. Propose creative solutions in employing psychological tests.

8. Distinguish between methods of communication with the hearing and visually impaired

9. Analyse intelligence tests

10. Suggest how to use the computer in teaching the hearing and visually impaired

11. Distinguish between psychological tests and intelligence tests.

12. Perform diagnosis and evaluation, tests, interviews and case studies

13. Use one of the psychological tests consistent with the problem of disability

14. Perform professional duties towards individuals in need.

15. Develop acceptance of opinions by colleagues when participating or presenting assignments

16. Work in teams e.g. in writing status reports or recording data

17. Use modern technologies to communicate with people with hearing disabilities

18. Participate positively and with self-confidence

19. Uses intelligence and personality tests and interpret their results

Teaching and learning methods

· Lecture and discussion

· Case study and discussion panels; method of diagnosis and treatment

· Group work; write reports and summarize studies

· Field visits to schools and special education centres

· Midterm exam 20%
